Notapub

Tell Notapub what you're after. It finds the person who has it, knows it, or is after it too.

Notapub is a quieter way to find the specific person you need, just by saying it in plain words. Not a feed to scroll, not a place to perform. You write what you're looking for, what you're trying to figure out, what you'd love to get into, or what you can offer, and Notapub points it at the person it's for. Nearby, or anywhere.

How it works

• Tell us what you're after. A problem you're stuck on, a question that's been nagging at you, a thing you're trying to track down, a skill you want to pick up, or something you can offer, teach, lend, or trade.
• Notapub does the finding. It reads what you wrote and surfaces the few people whose own words line up with it, near you or anywhere.
• Reach out. Each one comes as a few honest lines about them. If it's what you were after, you write to them, and they see you the same way.

That's the whole thing. Nothing to broadcast, no audience to win over, no feed to keep up with. What you said is what does the work.

What people use it for

If it comes down to finding the right person, it belongs here:

• getting unstuck on something no one around you can solve
• finding someone who has already been through what you're facing
• tracking down a specific thing, part, or recommendation you can trust nearby
• learning a craft from someone who actually does it
• finding a collaborator, a cofounder, or people to start something with
• buying, selling, trading, hiring, or getting hired for something specific
• reaching the few people who share an obsession the rest of the room doesn't
• getting real, unsoftened feedback on an idea, a draft, or a plan
• asking a question that needs a person who has actually done the thing

Why it works this way

• You name it; the person comes to you. Most apps make you advertise yourself and go hunting. Here you just tell us what you need, and Notapub does the finding.
• It's private. What you write is used only to find the people it's relevant to. Nothing is posted, nothing is broadcast, and no one's words reach you raw.
• It runs on words. What you're actually thinking about is the whole signal, so the quiet person stands on equal footing with the loudest one in the room.

We'll pay you $50 to finish your profile

Notapub only works if the things people say about themselves are true and specific, so we pay for that rather than hope for it. Talk to us for about fifteen minutes about what you want and what you can offer, finish your profile, which is roughly thirty answered questions, and we send you $50. Every payout is read by a person first, it's one payout per person, and the answers have to be genuinely yours. That's the whole offer; the terms are here.

The name

Ceci n'est pas un pub. The old third places, a good pub, a workshop, a corner shop, were where you'd run into the person who happened to know the thing you needed, or cared about the thing you cared about. Notapub is that lucky run-in, rebuilt: without the place, and aimed at whatever you're looking for.

Who makes it

Notapub is built by Qualiaverse LLC.
