Why we pay $50 for fifteen minutes

The rate is the first thing people check for a catch, so here is how it was arrived at and what it is worth next to the alternatives.

Where $50 sits against the going rates

Prorated, $50 for fifteen minutes is $200 an hour. That is well above a general consumer focus group, which pays about $50 to $100 for a sixty-minute session, and it is far above a consumer survey panel, where the effective rate lands near $1 to $3 an hour once screen-outs are counted. It is below what a specialist or executive session pays, and those run into the hundreds.

The honest caveat on that arithmetic is the same one every time: it is fifteen minutes, once. An hourly rate you can only bill for a quarter of an hour is a nice number and not an income.

The terms of the payout

You talk with us for about fifteen minutes. You complete your profile on the app, which takes about thirty answered questions. Once a human reviews your responses and confirms they are genuine, you receive $50. Payouts are limited to one per person.

We never ask for a card, a bank login or a fee. Nothing about this costs you money at any point.

Why pay at all instead of just advertising

This is the part that actually sets the number. Notapub connects people by what they want and what they can offer, so it is worth nothing until enough people have said those things properly.

Advertising buys visitors. Most of a paid visit ends in a page view and nothing else, and a network gets no value from a page view. Paying directly buys the thing itself: a finished profile, which keeps working for everybody who arrives afterwards. Set the price too low and you get one-word answers from people optimizing for speed. Set it high enough that fifteen careful minutes is clearly worth it, and you get the thing you actually needed.

That is also why it is one per person and why it ends once there are enough profiles. This is a start-up cost, not a business model.

What makes an answer worth paying for

Detail, specifically. "Looking for a cofounder" describes several hundred thousand people and helps nobody. "Cofounder, hardware, has taken something through manufacturing, Bay Area, has runway for a year" reaches the right handful.

That is the whole reason a person reads every profile before money goes out, and the whole reason filler is not paid. It is not a test of effort for its own sake. A thin profile genuinely cannot do the job.

Common questions

How do I receive the $50 payment?

A person reads your finished profile. If the answers are genuinely yours, we send the $50. Payouts go out by hand, so it is not instant.

Can I complete the interview more than once?

No. Payouts are strictly limited to one per person.

How long does profile setup take?

The roughly thirty questions are mostly answered during the call itself, so about fifteen minutes covers it.

Will the offer still be there next month?

Possibly not. It exists to get the first profiles written and it stops once there are enough.
